Lifestyle, dietary and treatment adherence pattern of uncontrolled diabetics in coastal Karnataka, India

Background: Diabetes Mellitus shows a rising trend in India, driven by combination of factors like sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy diet and tobacco use. The cornerstone for interventions to reduce this is lifestyle modification. Aim & Objective: This study aims determine behaviours among uncontrolled diabetics rural South India. Settings Design: pilot conducted as part community trial which enrolled (Glycosylated haemoglobin, HbA1C 7% or more) selected from baseline survey 2 RBS readings. Methods Material: sociodemographic details, habits treatment adherence eligible participants were recorded with validated questionnaire. Statistical analysis used: Data was compared groups poor glycaemic control using Chi square test. Results: There no significant association age gender levels. Majority non-smokers, non-alcoholics did not exercise. Higher proportions those hospital admissions, longer duration disease less frequent check-ups had control; but these statistically significant. Dietary inadequate. However, there dietary control. Conclusions: Although overall medication follow up satisfactory, modification being sufficiently followed.
